Holmium Laser ThuLEP
A modern solution for treating large prostate adenomas
The Holmium Laser, used in the ThuLEP (ThuLium Laser Enucleation of the Prostate) technique, is an advanced alternative to conventional resection (TURP). This method consists of enucleating the prostate adenoma precisely, without external incision, using a highly targeted laser beam.
💡 Recommended for large-volume adenomas (>80 cm³), the ThuLEP technique restores normal urinary flow, with less bleeding and faster recovery than conventional surgery.
Benefits
The advantages of the Holmium ThuLEP laser
✔ Excellent efficacy even on large prostates
✔ Less bleeding than conventional surgery
✔ Rapid recovery, with short hospital stay
✔ Marked improvement in urinary stream and reduction in symptoms
✔ Very low re-intervention rate
✔ Technique recommended in international guidelines
📌 Visible results within the first few weeks after catheter removal
How it works
Procedure
Treatment follows several stages:
1️⃣ General anaesthesia or spinal anaesthesia
2️⃣ Introduction of an endoscope via the natural route (urethra)
3️⃣ Location of adenomatous lobes
4️⃣ Laser enucleation of internal lobes (ThuLEP)
5️⃣ Fragmentation and evacuation of tissue (morcellator)
6️⃣ Placement of a bladder catheter (usually 24 h)
📌 Duration: approx. 60 min
🏥 Hospital stay: 1 day (sometimes outpatient, depending on context)
Indications for Holmium laser treatment
ThuLEP is particularly suitable for :
- Large prostate adenoma (greater than 80-100 cm³)
- Looking for a lasting solution to urinary problems?
- Intolerant or resistant to drugs
- Failure or recurrence of previous treatment
- On anticoagulants (after anesthetic validation)
